Vintage Background Cards- Kaszazz

So I had a little late night, as I have wanted to do up this Kaszazz project for so long. The talented designer was Alicia Jamieson. I remember when she made them up before submitting to Kaszazz, myself and many other consultants told her to submit them. I loved them then and I love them even more now, that I have made them and had fun with the fabulous techniques used. These are right up my ally. The faux bleaching technique is so easy and looks fab.
They start with a white gloss card, which you then sand, I used an emery board, but Kaszazz have the Tim Holtz sanding grips which I will have to invest in as it would've been easier and quicker. Then, using Distress inks, I blended about 3 diferent colours over with the blending tool. Followed by Vintage Photo to help highlight the scratches. Lastly use Barn Door ink and a sponge and randomly dab all over each card front. All the stamping is done with Staz on, and I used a mix of different stamps, all from Kaszazz.
My favourite parts! This is where the faux bleaching comes to hand: flick or spritz water over some of the cards and then blot with paper towel. The Distress Inks react with the water and you are left with a lighter colouring where the water was.
You can also see in this pic, I couloured the flowers with some Barn Door ink and my Aquash water brush.

In these two pics you can see the bleaching effect again. I have just used the water brush with water only to colour in the flowers and the ink colour is removed slightly. I love this effect! Here is the last card which uses transparency for my stamped image of the Eiffel Tower.
I flicked water on the quote panel and coloured the flowers with the Barn door on this one.
Thanks Alicia for the design and thanks Kaszazz. The copyright for this design is owned by Kaszazz, but feel free to try this technique, and let me know if you have any queries, or you would like to purchase any of the products used for this project. tan.dave@bigpond.com

Card Frenzy

Now the kids are on holidays and Hubby too, it seems I've had a little time for crafting! Although I don't have a designating area for crafting at the moment, it helped with the mojo to have some kits on hand and some Kaszazz projects to sink my teeth into!
My first attempt at a set was using the Basic Grey Sweet Threads collection, which was an awesome prize pack I won. I made 3 cards:
using the papers, die cuts, cardstock stickers and some added bling.
Then I made this simple design, using my Kaszazz Ezy Press die cut and embossing maching to emboss a "Miss You", die background, some Kaszazz striped ribbon and a few simple Basic Grey embellies. I actually prefer this one over the other 3 cards I made first!

Then I decided to make up the Heavy Metal cards, which are a Kaszazz project. Love the techniques used here:
The Ezy Press die used was "cogs", a mix of cardstock colours was used, aswell as our 12 x 12" silver foil card, which I am going to experiment with a whole lot more. Had so much fun with these. A bit of sanding and Distress inks to highlight areas, and they really do give the metal effect!

Transparency was also used as you can see here with a piece of Ebony and Ivory paper, with a Father verse tucked behind it. A vintage clock stamp was also stamped onto the transparency using Staz on.

First journal entry for Willowing's Art heart and Healing course done!!

It's taken me a few weeks to get to the end of this project, so much going on here with christmas and birthdays, school parties etc. Today it was time for me with a visit to the massuese and a bit of newpaper reading, and finishing off my entry. You can see all the details of Tam's amazing courses over here at www.willowing.ning.com
It's great to let loose with some paint, gesso and stamping and inks. not knowing how it will turn out. Especially when there is a portrait involved. This is about my 3rd serious attempt at drawing portraits, so still in the very early learning stages, but love the mixed media. there is some hidden journalling under all the layers of paint and gesso. Very therapeutic!

Promotions, while I can't see the kitchen table!!!

Not so lucky to have a "Me space" in the new apartment, so the dining table is getting covered inch by inch. Hubby had to make the comment today, look at you, and rolls his eyes at me. I find it quite amusing as he was the one who suggested i could have one end of the table as the table is fairly roomy. At the moment there are 2 laptops, 3-4 off the page projects I'm working on, a scanner, trimmer, projects waiting to be photographed, tools, inks etc. his reading glasses and a mountain of gift boxes. My beautiful girl came home from school today with a handful of gorgeous gift boxes they had made with the science teacher. OMG, I was onto them straight away. Much like a Kaszazz project I once made, quick and easy and gorgeous with a piece of ribbon. Watch this space, we both went box crazy and Jack even got in on the act. Know what I'll be uploading tomorrow. But for now, here's a look at the December promos. from Kaszazz, and a sneak peek at the January Host promo!

Scrapbook Boutique Inspiration challenge.

Here’s my first Christmas card for the season, & I’m happy to say there are no traces of green or red! I used my Ezy Press machine to emboss a dots background and die cut a label, then some fab Design adhesives and foils for the pink snowflakes. I punched out some larger snowflakes in white and smothered them in ice stickles. Of course a little Kaszazz ribbon made it’s way on there too!

Travelling

Well, it has been a very long time since my last post. My life is never short of activity and while in Darwin, I started a new business, had to move house a few times and pack up a few times and get ready for our big travelling adventure, which we are still on.
We went from Darwin to Alice springs, Ayers rock, Kings Canyon etc, then back to Alice Springs where we left Dave and flew to Adelaide. (He drove on to Birdsville for the races and met us there later.)
After a few weeks in Adelaide, we then took off where we left off and travelled to the flinders Ranges, and The Eyre Peninsula. This is a letter I have just written to my family and will tell you of our recent adventures up until now! Enjoy...
We arrived at Port Broughton Caravan Park yesterday afternoon. This is where all the school kids have been hiding all this time. For school holidays, we hadn’t come across many. So kids are lapping it up.

We just spent most of a week, bush camping at Fitzgerald Bay, just out of Whyalla. What a place, absolutely amazing. Right on the water, Dolphins nearly every day. Not much fishing, a few squid and a whiting, but it was nice.

So we have done the Eyre Peninsula, and are now starting the Yorke Peninsula. How hot was it yesterday. We are so accustomed to the crazy, windy, cold weather, that yesterday was a shock to the system. The kids even went for a swim here, which is great, they need some exercise. Jack has got the podgy look again, a pot belly and they don’t look like the olive brown North Qldsrs, they were a few months ago. We are heading off for a big walk into town shortly.

Jack got a bad cut on his foot after Dave dropped a rock on it while they were collecting razor fish at Fitz. Bay. It looked like it shoould’ve been stitched, but luckily we are armed with a good first aid kit and it is healing well. But…how do you tell a boy, not to jump around on it, especially when there’s a jumping pillow here.

We’ve had a few funny mishaps and some not so funny, but it’s all part of the adventure.

In the flinders Ranges, Dave lost his towel, when it caught fire on the clothes line, will explain this another time. So we were on the hunt for a new towel when we got to the next town, which we got. Then a few nights later, we left the other 3 towels on the clothes line at Coffin Bay and took off none the wiser. So then we had to buy 3 more towels in Port Lincoln.

While in coffin Bay, we tried to do some bush camping in the national Park and normally, very 4wd savvy, but we were towing the camper trailer through very soft sand and got nicely bogged. You know how much Dave loves being the centre of attention…NOT! Of course people had to pull up behind us and wait for us to get out. They were very friendly and very helpful though!!! So we got out of that with his pride still in tact and decided to go back and stay at the caravan park instead.

My fantastic, brand new Samsung Galaxy Phone now has a huge big crack on the screen. Dave tickled Taylah while she was using It and it got dropped and cracked. Let’s just say, I had to walk away from that one for awhile to cool down. I’m going to start nick naming my husband, Doctor Damage. (The phone still works and it has been great for travelling, using the internet to find out weather conditions, taking pics and checking my emails on it, very versatile!) (Oh and also checking into facebook every once in awhile.)

We think we have about 2 weeks to go, if we can stretch the money out that long. We are going to have to be very careful with our budget now, as we are on the last of it. Dave will have to speak with matrix sometime next week and sort some things out. He has been looking on the net for jobs and putting his feelers out. I will have to start thinking about school for kids and a job for me too! Here we go again, Deja Vous. Feel like I’ve gone through this routine a few times!!!!! Wouldn’t it be great if we could just keep travelling and not worry about any of this.

Anyway, it’s weird, we have to remind ourselves sometimes that we are in South Australia! We could be anywhere really, with the amount of places we’ve seen. But I have to say, there are some very beautiful places along this stretch of the country. Places I know I’ve been to as a kid, and places I haven’t. We really loved Cowell. We stayed there a few nights and it was so cool. They had the town market on and some other craft shops and we got all sorts of goodies that day. All the local produce was yummy.

Photos are from the Point Lowly lighthouse and my family on the jetty at Cowell, SA.
